Ouija Board

DR. LATCH'S OUIJA BOARD

Ouija is a hard word to spell. That is not the most interesting thing about it but it is worth noting.

The board is a communication tool. Letters, numbers, yes, no. A planchette that moves across the surface toward whatever it is moving toward. The session asks questions. Something answers. That framework has existed in various forms for a very long time and the fact that it keeps existing should tell you something about whether it works.

This specific board was acquired through Dr. Corbin Latch, the Spooky Boys' spiritual advisor. He did not provide a full account of where it came from before him. It has a history. The history is complicated. Scott has asked about it twice. Both times Dr. Latch gave an answer that addressed a different question than the one that was asked. Scott has written both answers down. They are in a document. He is still working out what they mean.

There are boards you can buy at a toy store. Parker Brothers makes one. It has been a retail product since 1891 which is either reassuring or alarming depending on your position on what the board actually does. This is not one of those. The difference between a mass market board and this one is noticeable to anyone who has handled both. How it is noticeable is something the Spooky Boys assess on a per-session basis because the assessment changes depending on the location, the participants, and what the board decides to do that night.

A few things worth knowing before a session. The planchette moves toward what wants to be heard, not necessarily what you asked for. Dr. Corbin Latch told us this. He did not elaborate. Always perform the closing ritual before ending communication. The Spooky Boys have not always done this. The consequences of not doing this are documented in a file that is not part of the public archive.

Do not use this board without Steven present. That is not a suggestion.

Handle it accordingly.
