Check Your Carbon Monoxide Detector First

Carbon monoxide poisoning causes hallucinations, voices, pressure on the chest, dread, and the feeling that someone else is in the room. The family moved out, the symptoms stopped, they fixed it, and the ghosts didn't come back with them.

Other Boring Causes

Infrasound is the big one. Sound below 20 Hz, too low to hear but you feel it. An engineer named Vic Tandy tracked his own haunted lab down to an extractor fan running at 18.98 Hz, which is near the resonant frequency of the human eye. That's why people catch movement at the edge of their vision and turn and nothing is there. Furnaces, ducts, compressors, highways.

Sleep paralysis, if it happens while you're falling asleep or waking up and you can't move. It's common and it feels completely real.

Then old wiring, drafts, plumbing knock, a settling foundation, mold, a neighbor's subwoofer.
