DOWSING RODS

Nobody invented these. That is the first thing to understand. Dowsing rods are not a product. There is no manufacturer. No model number. No patent. They predate the concept of ghost hunting equipment by several thousand years and they were not originally built for ghosts.

They were built for water. Ancient practitioners used L-shaped rods to locate underground water sources, mineral deposits, buried objects. The mechanism was never fully explained and still hasn't been. The rods move. Whether they move because of the operator's unconscious muscle response, genuine environmental sensitivity, or something else entirely is a debate that has been running for centuries and is not going to be resolved here.

What the Spooky Boys use them for is communication.

A spirit that cannot speak, cannot move objects reliably, cannot produce consistent EMF readings still has presence. Still has energy. Still exerts something on the environment that sensitive instruments can register. Dowsing rods are among the oldest sensitive instruments that exist. You hold them loosely. You ask a question. The rods cross for yes. They open for no. The operator is the instrument as much as the rods are. That is either the weakness of the method or the point of it depending on how you think about what a paranormal investigator actually is.

David handles most of our dowsing rod sessions. He does not fully explain how he knows what he knows during those sessions. We have stopped asking him to.

The rods are copper. That is not incidental. Copper is one of the more documented conductors of electromagnetic energy in the materials literature. Whether that matters in this context is a question Scott has a document on. The document is not ready.

They go in a bag. They come out when the location requires them. They have been used at more of our investigation sites than any other single piece of equipment. The results are in the logs.
